Communication I truly believe the most successful classrooms come from an environment of consistent communication between school and home. we are a team to help our learners grow! Our classroom website will be updated every Friday with information about what we will be learning in school the following week. I will also send home a weekly parent update on Friday’s with important information and announcements. Our Google classroom we will use on Friday’s will be updated the night before. Work needs to be completed by Sunday for attendance and grading credit. For students who are distance learning every day, the class work will be updated the night prior. Class work need to be completed the day of to receive attendance and grading credit. Feel free to email me at [email protected] at any time about questions or concerns you may have. I will always do my best to respond within 24 hours.

Covid-19 Due to the Covid-19 pandemic school will look differently this year. Desks are spaced out as much as possible in the classroom. Desks and chairs will be sanitized between morning and afternoon classes daily. If you would like to donate Lysol wipes regularly throughout the year, this will help me with the sanitizing process. Temperatures will be taken at the kindergarten door. Students with a fever or covid related symptoms will not be allowed to attend until 24 hours after symptoms stop. Please do not give your child medicine in order for them to “make it through the day”. everyone has the opportunity to make up work any time they are absent. If a child tells me they don’t feel well, they will be sent to the office to wait to be picked up.
Parent Volunteers As part of the commitment you made to have your child attend Wasatch Peak Academy, each family is required to complete 30 volunteer hours. This year due to Covid-19 in class volunteer hours will be very limited. Please consider donating classroom supplies this year as a great way to get your hours completed. For every $10 spent it equals 1 hour of volunteer time. We can always use Lysol wipes, tissues, and prize box items. These are things we go through weekly. We also have an amazon wish list. if you would like the link, please let me know.
Behavior Management I believe in setting a positive learning environment for each student. In order to have a safe and successful classroom I will be using positive reinforcement to help all students feel safe and have the ability to learn. I will be using a clip chart system where students have the ability to move their clip up or down depending on their behavior. Students can earn rewards based on good behavior. The chart is fluid and students can move their clip back up if they are able to recognize the negative behavior and change it. Serious behaviors will result in an email or phone call to parents.
Attendance/Drop off/ Pick up I expect all students to come to school regularly and on time. Your child should arrive at school prepared to do his/her best. For this to occur your student should get enough sleep (8-10 hours a night), eat a nutritious breakfast and have a positive attitude.
Due to Covid-19 our morning kindergarten class has a staggered drop off time. If your last name is A-E please drop off at 7:55, F-P 8:00, Q-Z 8:05. Attendance will be taken at 8:10 AM. Please send our students in through our kindergarten classroom door, and not through the main school entrance. Temperatures will be taken upon arrival.
For PM kindergarten our classroom door will be unlocked at 11:25 to enter and locked at 11:30. There will be no early arrivals for PM kindergarten. This is a transition time between classes. I will be sanitizing the classroom, preparing for the afternoon class, and having my lunch break. Please do not leave if your child has not been taken inside by myself or a teaching assistant.
If your child comes to the door after 11:30 and it is locked, please help them sign in at the office.
Students will have a staggered pick up time at the end of the day. All kindergarten students must be picked up at our outside kindergarten door. Siblings are not allowed to pick up inside the school this year. If your last name is A-E please pick up at 2:20. If your last name is F-P please pick up at 2:25. If your last name is Q-Z please pick up at 2:30.
students are unable to be picked up from across the crosswalk this year. Please use the front carpool lane to pick up kindergarten students. Kindergarten students will only be able to be picked up if they are picked up by a sibling or we see the adult who is picking them up.
Student Folder Your child will be given a homework folder that should be brought to school daily. Please check and clean out this folder daily. Here you will find important notes, student work, and your child’s homework. I encourage you to make this a routine so that you are aware of what your child is learning at school each day. Please make sure this folder is brought to school with your child each day. this also helps them stay organized.
Homework I believe that homework should be a review of what has been taught at school that day. Homework should take no more than 5 minutes (on top of the required 20 minutes of reading every day). I will send a packet of homework home every Monday in your child’s folder. It is expected back on Thursday’s. I will keep them at the school over the weekend. As parents, please look over your child’s homework after they have completed it. Go over anything they may have missed. Please email me if there is a concept you believe they need more direct instruction on.
